A day of celebration - new Goldfish, new Arno & introducing BhellTower

Lenny birthdayI was going to write a post last week with the awesome new music video by Goldfish, but then we got caught up in our interactions with our local community projects, and of course just general days of work!

Arno Carstens - pic by Chris SaundersBut then as today is also Lenny’s birthday, and I was sent a link to a video of Arno Carstens recording a new track at a studio in Spain, AND I wanted to feature a brand new group, so I thought well hell – lets celebrate with three video’s for the occasion! Um, that its Lenny’s birthday that is… and of course because the Goldfish is so cool… and well, I suppose we better add that its good to know that we can expect a new Arno album soon… and that he is also part of the new group BhellTower! Arno Carstens - Rocking up the U.K.

Arno in full swingIt’s been a few months now since Arno Carstens was advertising his dogs before his move to the United Kingdom, where he was going to focus on building his international career and get onto some of the top music stages during the European summer. And he is certainly reaching top spot!

Hard Rock Calling logoIt was announced that Arno had signed up with a new manger John Giddings, the same one shared by Madonna, U2 and the Rolling Stones, and they really seem to have made a big impact. Hell – with Arno supporting artists like Suzanne Vega, Meatloaf, Paul Weller and in our eyes, best of all, the Police, at the Hard Rock calling Festival. And that’s not the Bobby on the beat – it’s the Police! Continue reading ‘Arno Carstens - Rocking up the U.K.’

Josie Field to support James Blunt! Or visa versa?

Josie Field is goldI have been listening to Josie Field’s debut CD Mercury over the last couple of days since she was first added to the Peak Performances database, and have been very surprised by the chilled-out space that she leads me to.

Josie has become quite a household name in the last two years, with even more and more of us oldies getting to hear of her live, it’s all happening pretty fast. She has got a haunting quality that I really enjoy, her voice low and full with words that actually make sense. And that’s refreshing. Hauntingly fulfilling in a refreshing way! Music knows no boundaries

Electric PondolandI always think its great to hear when other musicians around the world are inspired by our local artists - I am never sure how much actual benefit they might get from having their beats and rhythms remixed by someone else - but its a sign of inspiration. And to send inspiration to the other side of the world shows us how music really crosses all boundaries. Without contact even being needed.

I got notice of these tracks through Google Alerts, which I have found a pretty cool little service to keep track of the things that interest me online. Amampondo is one of my key words, and so as soon as Googles spider finds something (love to explain how, but I am no techie) I get mailed, and feel up to date. Arno Carstens does all that Jazz

Arno and GloriaArno Carstens is going to be appearing on stage with some of South Africa’s greatest jazz names at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre as part of the showcase of Don Laka and Friends putting showcasing Don’s new album Invitation. Also featured will be Gloria Bosman and Judith Sephuma… so what is Arno doing with all these Jazzmeisters?

Well, its very lekka knowing that this is happening because I can confidently say to everyone who is going to be there that this is going to be funky stuff – I can say that, because last year we got Arno and Gloria (here’s their rehearsal video) to perform together at the massive 2000 pax Santam event held at Lourensford Wine Estate.
