Bellville Rock City - a rock addicts fix!

Bellville Rock City front cover (Rhythm Records)I received a press release from Rhythm Records this morning regarding what I am sure is going to be a classic CD/DVD release! Bellville Rock City is a compilation that every South African rock lover is going to have to have in their collection, and one that is going to make Cape Town proud! Everyone says that Johannesburg is the centre of South Africa’s music industry, but this just shows that we will always be the Mother City - and we all know mama knows how to rock!

Arno before the SNG Peace Breaker launchFeaturing bands like Fokofpolisiekar, Springbok Nude Girls, aKING, New Holland and a host of other bands that all have their origins on that side of the “boerewors curtain”. The compilation has 13-tracks of music, music videos, a 30-minute documentary, a 48-page booklet with photos and the musicians personal accounts, and even some MP3’s that have never been released on CD before. Fokofpolisiekar tour new release, and then some!

Antibiotika coverIn April last year I wrote a piece about Fokofpolisiekar possibly calling it quits, and since then South African has been blessed with variations of the winning formula that made the original group so successful with the formation of the Van Coke Kartel and aKing. But it ain’t over till they say its over! And these guys just aren’t ready for that yet!

With the national tour that is currently under-way (it started last night - see dates below) and the release of their latest offering of Antibiotika with 4 new tracks and 8 of their videos, with the bonus of a preview to their upcoming full length movie which is being released later this year, I think its fair to say we have much more coming in the future! The making of the Safe As Houses video - aKING

aKING video launch inviteA few weeks back we were invited to aKING’s launch of their new Safe As Houses music video at Mercury Live, and I then updated the post with that video.

What an awesome one – filmed on the Sea Point promenade, it is something different to what we normally see, but then so is aKING! So here is the video of the making of the video! Continue reading ‘The making of the Safe As Houses video - aKING’

aKING launch 2nd music video for Safe As Houses

Klassiek Chameleon at PeakI of course spoke of winter setting into the Cape in my last post, while today is one of the most glorious winter days! Liny from Rhythm Records just popped over for lunch bringing with her the new Chris Chameleon CD & DVD Klassieke Chameleon, which we sat listening to outside and will report back on soon – cool stuff.

aKing the band I was just setting up this post before she arrived, as she mailed me some of aKING’s upcoming gigs and an invite to the launch of their music video at the end of this month at Mercury Live. Yes, you can catch aKING on the radio, as their first single “The Dance” is playing on 5fm, and has reached the hot spot @ #1 on the Hi5@5, but there is nothing like actually seeing the guys up on stage giving it their all! Big party in Stellenbosch - don’t tell the cops!

The White Horse Sessions AprilIf you want to be anywhere this weekend, you just have to be in Stellenbosch! The student town is going to have a serious Rock show-down, and surely if enough people pack the venue, the cops just won’t have a chance to get in!

Presented by White Horse Whisky and MK89, The White Horse Sessions will be rocking Stellenbosch this weekend after the successful sessions in Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and Potchefstroom (no, not Nelspruit!). Continue reading ‘Big party in Stellenbosch - don’t tell the cops!’
