Band members

Le Roi Nel – Vocalist
Alex Fourie – Trumpet, keyboard, vocals
Neil Basson – Guitar, vocals
Theuns Schoonwinkel – Bass
Dirkie Uys - Drums

Foto na Dans was formed when vocalist Le Roi Nel joined Theuns, Dirkie, Neil and Alex, who previously played in a band together. It took seven years in and out of projects for the members to finally find the right combination. Foto na Dans is the result of creative self-expression that has not heeded to commercial influences, finding and establishing their own new significant sound in Afrikaans.

Foto na Dans released a 4 track debut album in January 2007 to fulfil a growing demand for their music after their video “Huiwerig” was extremely popular on MK89. Their music is unique and colourfully innovative, a marvellous noise that presents an audio-frequency of variety through an electronic arrangement of the fragmented thoughts of 5 talented individuals.

Within the first six months since the release of the debut EP, Foto na Dans has impressed audiences and media nationwide with their energy packed, larger-than-life live shows, gaining instant fans wherever they perform. Their fiery, fearless approach, together with intelligent lyrics and their unique sound has made them a much talked about new Afrikaans Rock favourite.

Foto na Dans recorded their first full length album at B-Sharp studios in Boksburg from 25 June to 22 July. The album, titled INTERVENSIE was released on 1 September.

INTERVENSIE offers exactly what the name implies: an intervention providing new direction to SA Progressive Rock. With “INTERVENSIE” Foto na Dans establishes their own sound. Their classical training shows in the way that electronic elements are used to open up this Rock album to symphonic dimensions.

Foto na Dans has played at major festivals and has toured extensively in 2007. If the raving crowd responses are anything to go by, Foto na Dans is sure to be destined for great success in the near future.

Media quotes:

Imagine Fokof and the Nudies scoring a symphony with Muse and you’ll know exactly where Intervensie is on the progressive rock map. Actually, any ‘sum of their influences’ kiss-off doesn’t come close to nailing what makes Foto Na Dans so awesome.

“INTERVENSIE is no standard Afrikaans rock record, this is a vibrant, slick dose of rock ‘n roll that will sucker-punch you between the eyes and leave you dazed and pushing repeat.” Lloyd Gedye, Levi`s Music Mag.

“To those who have never heard Foto na Dans, one may be inclined to liken them to Muse, with electronic elements blended in perfectly with progressive rock and a dash of a more sophisticated classical sound. When putting this into context, I find myself taken aback. The fact that a South African band can produce a debut album of such a quality that you don`t think twice when making this comparison is surely something special.” Jarrad Nelsom, www.futurespace.co.za
