I was very chuffed to get an email today from Carol Thorns celebrating that CODA is a finalist in the Good Hope FM Best of Cape Town Awards! Ahh how far they have come since we first suggested to Carol that she put together a group for Jacques Kallis’ Benefit Concert in 2005, and introduced her to Mr. Funky Nick Mathews and Ms Spunky Yolanda Yawa!

We get much satisfaction too that the group is currently recording their second album with Gabi le Roux, who music lovers will know is one of the countries best producers and song writers! After all, all it took was one initial email to tweak Gabi’s interest, with their awesome first album Beautiful, and now they will forever be connected in the artwork of their next CD cover! Awesome!

The group has changed a little in the last 3 years, with Judy Brown on Sax and Romanian Cristina Chiselev on Violin having joined recently, to take the place of Rayelle Goodman. But it has pumped up the sound, and added what I had said to Carol I felt was missing initially. Even Bianca Coleman of the Cape Argus said ‘CODA is just so hot right now…You simply cannot think about having a party without at least trying to sign them up for the evening’s entertainment…CODA is the city’s most in-demand band.‘

Coda has been very busy doing corporate gigs both locally and internationally (such as Dubai, Seychelles, Botswana), and are also one of the featured artists appearing at the ZimFest on 6 September, along with other SA favourites the Dirty Skirts, the Rudimentals and Freshlyground. CODA is certainly, in my eyes, deserving of the Best of Cape Town Award, so I really hope that all our readers will support the group and sms the code A10 to the Good Hope FM competition number 35432!
