Chris Chameleon shows the colours of Afrikaans on tour

Chris Chameleon strikes a poseChris Chameleon is one of South Africa’s most progressive stars. He has been on top of the hip and funky music movement as a member of Boo!; he has cracked the contemporary English pop market; and continues to do the same with Afrikaans music, like very few other cross-over musicians have been able to do before him.

Chris Chameleon in full songWith Chris travelling so much over the last few years since going solo, people need to remember what a powerful ambassador this man is to South Africa. Not only does he leave his audiences feeling the elation of having had a musical massage after his shows, but he is also going forth and educating so many people about all the beautifully descriptive elements of the Afrikaans language! A language that has historically been mostly associated with oppression and apartheid.

Chris Chameleon - a man of many shadesChris brings it alive.

We were fortunate enough that he was available a few weeks ago for a corporate gig – something he doesn’t do too often – performing at a Medihelp event, and we received an email the next day to say how brilliantly the evening went down!

I found this little homemade video of a recent performance by Chris at the intimate, and seemily hot, Ekko in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Chris has always drawn appreciative audiences in the Benelux, and although most of his narration is in English, he ends it off with a great version of Klein Klein Jakkalsies. But not before he explains comically about some of the intricacies/simplicity of the Afrikaans language…
