Irit Noble is going to be heading to Kenya for Peak Performances on 29 November to Emcee at an event hosted by the Women’s Voice trust called The Black Peacock Ball. We were very excited when Angie got the contracts in and everything was finalized, because this is another exciting exploration into corporate Africa that we are proud of, never mind that Irit was first choice and requested by the client!
This inaugural charity ball in Nairobi, is inspired by the proud and magnificent women of Africa, and they have promised that a whole lot of glamour will be thrown together to create a potent mix for one of the years most fashionable events, where real women will be celebrated.
And who better than Irit, to do it in style!
The event name is drawn from the Black opal and Peacocks. A superb black opal was dug out in 1970 at the Wilson Royal Peacock mines. The impressive 5528 stone was cut into a flawless 166 red on black stone named “The Black Peacock”. In addition, Peacocks are large, colourful pheasant’s renown for being proud and their outrageous iridescent tails. The term “peacock” is commonly used to refer to birds of both sexes. This event is an inclusive event and both genders will be referred to as Peacocks.
This year’s inaugural gala and fund raiser will champion the gender social issue by focusing on positive messages and resolutions on prevention of Violence Against Women. All funds raised from this event will be donated to the “We can Kenya alliance” in memory of all Kenyan women who are victims of violent crime and abuse.
‘We Can’ campaign is a global movement to end violence against women; it is active in Asia, Europe and North America. ‘We Can Kenya Alliance’ is a coalition of over 70 civil society organizations, collective and individuals taking the campaign to end all violence against women. The campaign will be launched nationally in November 2008, with 16 days of activism against gender-based-violence.
Irit will also be appearing on stage with; Kenya’s Atemi Oyungu who has been likened to international artists such as Angie Stone and Angelique Kidjo for her powerful and unique vocals, her remarkable song writing skills as well as her stunning stage presence; and South African songstress Lira who has been making a serious name for herself both locally and internationally since the release of her debut album, Feel Good.
The Woman’s Voice Trust is a new initiative that has been set up to empower and enlighten women in Kenya. Women are the lifeblood of a nation and should therefore be given the highest regard and protection. This we believe begins with women doing it for themselves. A group of individuals got together and agreed that more can, and must be done to uplift and help the women of our nation. To this end, the Woman’s Voice Trust’s has been established and its core purpose is to fund-raise for organisations that support the causes of Kenyan women’s’ dignity and health.
Awesome stuff!
