It’s 27 April 2008. It is a special day in South Africa’s history because it is Freedom Day. A day that should be considered to be the birthday of this country, as it was on this day back in 1994 that the whole country had a free voice for the first time.
We have so much to be grateful for, but mostly we have to remember that it took the special character of South Africans to sit down, and come up with a plan that would take this country and all its people forward into the next century. They sat at a table; they agreed and disagreed with each other, but eventually stood side by side shaking hands to seal a pact that although it will be a hard road, we will work at making the country a better place for all. I have been listening to Josie Field’s debut CD Mercury over the last couple of days since she was first added to the Peak Performances database, and have been very surprised by the chilled-out space that she leads me to.
Josie has become quite a household name in the last two years, with even more and more of us oldies getting to hear of her live, it’s all happening pretty fast. She has got a haunting quality that I really enjoy, her voice low and full with words that actually make sense. And that’s refreshing. Hauntingly fulfilling in a refreshing way! South Africa is such a special country, and I still believe, that it is truly a shining example to the rest of the world of how a peaceful transition can take place between cultures that have been historically separated, and developing parallel to each other.
Being the owner of a small business that passionately promotes its creative citizens, not only to its own people, but music lovers around the world, we want to be a apart of this exciting future, and lend assistance where we can. Continue reading ‘South African “Think to Thank”’
Well – the headline can come true with a little bit of effort from Koldproduk’s fans!
Koldproduk, who have been making massive waves on the South African music scene, and were nominated for a SAMA for the music video Hush, could be the group to open for one of the biggest names in rap, MR 50 Cent (I 1st saw it @ IMOD). I think that to bring him some African flavour for his SA tour on 01 May on Jo’burg, and 3rd May in Cape Town, would just be the springboks knees!
Cape Town… do you want to see Koldproduk here? Come-on Peak’les! Continue reading ‘Koldproduk to open for 50 Cent!’
I thought it was pretty inspirational to hear that Queen’s Brian May, should now officially be addressed as Dr. May, after finishing his PhD in astrophysics. And not only that, but this last Monday Dr. May was made the fourth Chancellor of John Moores University in Liverpool.
We met (Dr) Brian May in 2004 when Queen was here as part of the 1st 46664 concert, as Amampondo was requested to provide the live tribal drumming for the final track of the concert ‘We Will Rock You’ and so had to meet and work out who was going to start drumming where. He was a hellova nice guy, and didn’t have any of the airs of an artist who is part of one of the greatest Rock groups around. Continue reading ‘This Queen is a Doctor!’
