Lark performs last 3 gigs - ever.

LarkSo it’s final, I am afraid to say – Lark will be no more. The band let us know last week that they would not be taking any more bookings, and I see now that an official announcement was made on Facebook last night.

There will be one final gig tomorrow night – Friday the 15th of February at The Assembly and judging by the very hot crowd that jammed into the venue to see the launch of aKing last night – it’s going to be bloody busy! They will also have one last gig for the Johannesburg Pretoria fans at 88 on the 22nd of February, and then will put everything they have into their final festival gig at Ramfest on the 1st of March. It’s sad, but true.
Simon ‘Fuzzy’ RatcliffSimon ‘Fuzzy’ Ratcliff said that “it’s premature for me to site reasons for the breakup” but there will be a story appearing soon by music journo Evan Milton explaing more and giving more insight into what makes a successful SAMA award (Razbliuto) winning group decide to end it after just four years. I do know that one of the group is relocating to the U.K., but feel that’s up to them to announce. What’s important now is to fill those gigs with adoring fans!

Lark 3Simon continued,” It’s a bit kak, but it’s been an amazing 4 years in which we’ve seen, experienced and accomplished some wonderful things. I care deeply for Paul, Inge and Sean and look forward to many other projects and (hopefully) performances with them… if I can learn how to keep up with their incredible talent!

Thanks to all my friends and colleagues for the support and encouragement. What can I say, SA audience’s rock. I hope to see some of you at one of these gigs.

Lark 2I feel its certainly not always a bad thing groups splitting up to follow new directions – just that in this case I wanted Lark to go further and expand their already brilliant creativity – taking us all along for the ride. Not that it ends here. It just means we have to wait and see what is born from the dust of what was.

LarkOut of that same kind of dust came Chris Chameleon who astounds us with his solo material; Arno Carstens wouldn’t have given us Another Universe and his whole New Porn collaborations and Theo Crous might have not have had the fun he’d had with the snarling Rottweiler that is K.O.B.U.S! Fokofpolisiekar has become aKing and the Van Coke Kartel… We gain much from the experience that they have learnt together, and so have to support them, both now at these last three gigs, and in the future.

Thanks for the music, the lights and the shows – you have been a group apart!
